CONGREGATIONAL ASSET MAPPING AT ST. PETER'S

Picture
Remember the gospel story of feeding the 5,000? (Mt 14:13-21, Mk 6:31-44, Luke 9:10-17, Jn 6:5-15)

In the story, a boy offered up what he had, five loaves of bread and two fish. He didn’t know what Jesus was going to do with them, but he had faith that they would be used well. And 5,000 were fed!  That’s a peek into how Congregational Asset Mapping works.

Congregational Asset Mapping is based on a model first used in community organizing, when community leaders sought ways to move communities from a scarcity mentality focused primarily on their needs to an abundance mentality focused on their existing resources.

Since then, it’s been adapted for use by nonprofits and many faith communities, including Episcopal congregations across the country. The St. Peter’s Vestry participated in a session last spring and found it to be enlightening … now we want to expand it to the whole congregation.

You are invited to participate in St. Peter’s Congregational Asset Mapping Exercise event [new date to be TBA]. We’ll gather in parish hall, lots of food, fun and fellowship—while we participate in a session led by representatives from the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, Cynthia McChesney and Paul Shackford.

Congregational Asset Mapping will help us as individuals and a community discover gifts and assets: many of which may be “hiding in plain sight.”

As part of the process, we’ll explore exciting ways to put things together to help us build up our congregation and impact on the larger community. And...we’ll have fun!
