Service time changes this Sunday! We return to our normal service times of 8:00 a.m. & 10:15 a.m. this Sunday, Sept. 7. The adult choir will also return this week for the 10:15 service. Our new nursery assistant, Lauren Atkins, a senior at Mountain Lakes High School, will join us along with Maureen Kirby, who continues to serve in the nursery. Babies and children through kindergarten age are welcome in the nursery for these next two Sundays before our Sunday School begins on Sept. 21.
This Sunday, we will bless the backpacks that are brought by the children and pray for them and their teachers as they begin this new school year. We invite the children to bring their new backpacks to church for the blessing this Sunday!
Welcoming Sunday with our annual Ministry Fair is September 14! Join us for one of our services and stay for the ministry fair and coffee hour hosted by the Vestry following. The new Parish Guide will be available at the ministry fair so that you can enjoy some photos from the past year while we also look ahead with excitement to this new program year. We are urging everyone to find at least one ministry group or committee to join, so that we can reach out more effectively to those with needs of many kinds.
Coffee Hour hosts are need urgently! We count on everyone to assist with this important weekly fellowship activity. Please sign up to host: open dates are all Sundays after September 14th except December 7th and 21st. No experience needed! This is an easy way to serve our church! Prepare or purchase 2-4 items plus coffee & tea. (The coffee and tea is provided by the church.) It's that easy and specific instructions are in a booklet in the parish kitchen! Write in your name on the Sunday of your choice on the sign-up sheet in the parish hall next to the Vestry photos or contact Sue in the office. Thank You!
September is North Porch month in the Mountain Lakes churches! Last year over 2,700 mothers, toddlers and infants in northern NJ turned to North Porch www.northporch.org to provide an emergency supply of diapers, formula and toddler food. Due to the continued economic challenges North Porch is anticipating over 3,000 this year. This translates to 150,000 diapers and 6,000 cans of formula needed this year. We are asking St. Peter’s parish to participate in the “Plus One” program to add just one item to your grocery list: case or package of baby diapers size 4, 5 or 6, Pull Ups, can(s) of Enfamil formula, diaper rash crème, baby wipes prefer 80 ct., or toddler food and bring these to church on the next four Sundays: September 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th. In our year-round stewardship plan, September’s theme is to welcome all, especially newcomers to St. Peter’s. The Prayers of the People will reflect this theme. Long-time parishioners are invited to help our newcomers feel the warmth of the St. Peter’s community by introducing yourselves at coffee hour to those new faces among us!
Many thanks to Papa YAC (Clive Knowles) for hosting a BBQ for the YACs last Sunday and introducing next year’s mission trip venue! The YACs (Youth At Church) who attended the event at Clive’s home learned about next summer’s Youth Mission trip to Millersville, Maryland, July 5 to 11. We are signed up for 12 youth and 4 adults. If you would like to be part of this amazing experience of helping to repair homes in Millersville, please contact Rev. Adele. St. Peter’s continues to make a difference in the lives of people! Registration for next summer’s mission trip closes on Oct. 19. Participants need to pay the $50 deposit to secure your spot! You don’t need to be experienced in home repair to be part of this mission! Talk to Clive Knowles, Mary Lou Musciano, Glenn Eigenmann, Kris Barlow or Rev. Adele who have been on one of the recent mission trips for more information.
The annual Sunday School Picnic for Families will be at the rectory on September 14 from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. All families with children and youth are invited! You are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.
As you do your fall re-organizing and de-cluttering, we have two ways to help you!
A seminar called “De-cluttering and Simplicity” will be offered at St. Peter’s on Thursday, September 25th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. led by The Rev. Dr. Jane Tomaine of the St. Benedict’s Toolbox Ministries. This seminar will be announced in the diocesan news and is available for anyone interested. A booklet will be included for each participant. Next, just in time after de-cluttering, our annual Rummage Sale will be held on Saturday, October 4. We can begin to receive items after September 27th. Because of use of the parish hall for fall events, we cannot take any donations before that date. The drop-off area will likely be the stage. We also need volunteers to help with set-up and pricing beginning on October 2nd in addition to helping the day of the sale. The Bereavement Support Group with Heidi O’Donnell LCSW meets Tuesday, September 9th at 7:30 pm in the Sanctuary.
The Caring Ministry will meet on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the parish hall nursery. You are invited to join this vital pastoral ministry of cheer and love, sent out in the form of cards signed by members of the group. Suzanne Finney and Betty Coan lead this ministry group.
The vestry will meet on Thursday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Rev. Chuck’s office.
Confirmation candidates for next spring are invited with their parents for an informational meeting with Rev. Chuck and Rev. Adele on Sunday, September 21 at 5:00 p.m.in the Parish Hall. At this time, we have six youth who will be eligible for confirmation in 2015.

Sandwiches, Salads and the Spiritual side of Stewardship: Join us in the Parish Hall tonight for a light dinner at 6:00 p.m. followed by a presentation from Paul Shackford, CFO of our diocese. Parishioners from other parishes in the diocese will be joining us. This is not just for Stewardship Team, vestry or finance committee! The workshop runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Even if you did not register, you are welcome to come.
Many thanks to our amazing Outreach Ministry folks for hosting a picnic for the Social Club of the Mental Health Association of Morris County last night! About thirty-five MHA’s consumers came and enjoyed burgers, hot dogs, salads and desserts made by St. Peter’s parishioners. Our thanks to Ron Owens who led members of the Denville String Band in some entertaining tunes! This annual event was held at the Tourne Park. Volunteers included Susan and Steph Braunlich, Liz Muller, John Garrison, Kris Barlow, Marguerite Smith, Dicki Lulay, Janet, Erin and William Waldron, Don MacGowan, Diane Grabowski, Mary Anderson, Al Vidovich and Jim Ferguson. Thanks to all of you for a fun evening!
The Bereavement Support Group, led by Heidi O’Donnell, LCSW, will meet on Tuesday evening, August 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the classroom upstairs in the Parish Hall. If you or someone you know has experienced a loss of any kind: death, divorce, job loss, etc., you are welcome to attend. This is a confidential support group that is not just for St. Peter’s parishioners, but for anyone in need. For more information, please call Heidi at 201-874-2220. Thanks to our special quartet last Sunday: Don MacGowan, Diane Grabowski, David Rollins and Susan Fleischmann performed music of Mendelssohn and Verdi beautifully during the 9:30 service. We thank all of our musicians who have added to the beauty of our worship this summer with their solos, duets and quartets. This Sunday completes the special summer musical offerings. Your Co-Rectors will sing an offertory anthem, “Be not afraid.”
If you’re looking for some Sunday afternoon fun (August 10th)…come down to Maxfield’s on Main in Boonton (the old firehouse) at 4:00 p.m. Chuck’s college rock band from Virginia Tech which began in 1971 will be the featured group on Sunday. They were known as the “Selective Service Sistum”. The band plays classic rock, including many Chicago tunes. See the poster below.

The wrought-iron railings at the church have been spruced up by a team of St. Peter’s men led by John Garrison. The railings on the church front steps plus the railings that lead up the hill from Martin’s Lane and along the walkway in front of the church have been scrapped and repainted. Many thanks to Hal Avery, Jim Muhaw, Kevin Edwards, Howard Storer, Glenn Eigenmann, Chad Harris and John Garrison for taking care of this project! This fits in with our year-round stewardship plan of the care of our buildings and grounds which just happens to be the theme for July and August!
Many thanks to our Faith Kitchen team for their work of serving the hungry in Dover this week. Tuesday’s cooking team included Evelyn Watkins and her granddaughter, Emily, Kay Alessio, Betty Coan, E.V. Janopaul and coordinator, Mary Perlin. Others from St. Peter’s are serving the lunch there today including Don MacGowan, Lee Westbrook, Jerry Watkins, Evelyn Watkins, their granddaughter Emily and Mary Perlin.
Lemonade on the Lawn needs one more host for the summer: August 24. If you are able to provide some simple refreshments for our fellowship after the 9:30 service, please contact Sue in the office at 973-334-4429. We are also looking for coffee hour hosts for the fall, beginning with September 21. The sign-up sheet is located on the small bulletin board by the Parish Hall double doors. Please help us continue this ministry of hospitality and sign up!
Stewardship 201, a workshop offered by Paul Shackford, CFO of the Diocese will be held at St. Peter’s on Wednesday evening, August 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A simple meal will be offered at 6:00 p.m. The workshop will include a study of a passage of scripture along with topics such as “Stewardship is about Discipleship, not membership,” and “Generational Stewardship.” How does our giving change our relationship with God? We received word of the passing of long-time parishioner, Elizabeth Vernon. She passed from this life on Sunday, July 27. Elizabeth and her family came to St. Peter’s in 1969. She had been residing at the Chelsea for the past few years. She will be buried in the family plot in Connecticut. The Summer Service Schedule is in FULL swing with a 9:30 a.m. Rite II service as well as the usual Rite I 8:00 service that remains the same. If you are serving at the 9:30 am service, please arrive by 9:15. A reminder also summer office hours are in now effect: Tuesday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Thank you to all who supported our June North Porch 5th Sunday Enfamil drive: Dicki Lulay, parishioner and Board Member of North Porch notes, “The outpouring of support from St. Peter’s was wonderful. All the Enfamil collected has been delivered to our Dover center and has already been distributed to infants in need. All monies have been used to buy Enfamil to help stock our shelves.”
This Thursday, July 10, the Caring Card Ministry meets at 2:00 p.m. in the parish nursery. All are welcome to join into the fellowship and card sending! This is an important ministry of caring and hospitality.

More great music this Sunday, July 13th, at 9:30! We will have brass accompaniment for the hymns played by one of our youth, Stephanie Muller on trumpet along with Choir members Garrett Sylvester on Trumpet and Al Vidovich on trombone. Thanks to these talented musicians for sharing their gift of music with us.
An article published by the local newspaper in Maysville, Kentucky featured Elena Messick in one of the photos during St. Peter’s recent mission trip. It has been posted on the hall bulletin board in the Parish Hall. This past Sunday, several of the youth and adults spoke about their experience. The mission team thanks you for your support of their work on behalf of Christ!
Adults who are interested in a mission trip experience for next summer are asked to contact Rev. Adele. We will have about 10 youth who will be going and would love to expand the team with more adults. You are invited to talk with this year’s adult leaders for more information: Clive Knowles, Mary Lou Musciano, Glenn Eigenmann and Rev. Adele.

Our year-round stewardship theme for July and August focuses on our property and finance ministries at St. Peter’s. What new ways of serving Christ here at St. Peter’s might we envision? How will God call us to use the resources of our buildings and monies to enhance our spiritual journeys as well as make our presence known to our neighbors? The concluding collect that we use for the summer comes from The Book of Common Prayer and reads: Almighty God, whose loving hand has given us all that we possess: Grant us grace that we may honor thee with our substance, and, remembering the account which we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of thy bounty, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sunday, June 29th is a North Porch Sunday: Our Outreach Ministry will be dedicating each 5th Sunday of the month this year to North Porch. June is a 5th Sunday month. St. Peter’s parishioners are asked to bring ENFAMIL (any product) to church this Sunday, June 29th and leave it in the baby bassinette. A monetary donation in cash or a check made out to “North Porch” in a sealed envelope placed in the bassinette or the offering plate would also be welcomed. The need is great for support from our parish. Each year North Porch provides over 6,000 cans of Enfamil to infants in need in Northern NJ.

Congratulations to Kelly Taukus who was the winning bidder on the hand-made quilt made by Gayle Nelson. Outreach is appreciative! Chris & Kelly’s daughter, Chelsea, was baptized last Sunday too. What a wonderful day it was!
As we take some leisure time this summer, please remember to keep your pledges up-to-date. We usually experience a reduction of cash-flow, especially during August, which makes it more challenging for our Treasurer, Ray Rogers, to meet our financial commitments. Bob Emer will be sending 2nd quarter statement out after the Fourth of July. The Finance Ministry Team, and our Treasurer Ray, ask that you calculate your summer months’ portion of your pledge and remit that amount before Labor Day. Late July or early August is preferred. And your plate donations help with the summertime needs to cover expenses. Thank you!

This Week at St. Peter’s: tonight (Wed.) Endowment & our wardens will meet at 7: 30 p.m.
This Friday morning, June 20, our bishop, The Rt. Rev. Mark Beckwith, will be at St. Peter’s to have some conversation with community leaders in Mountain Lakes in order to better understand what God is already “up to” in our neighborhood and where our church might look with a “missional eye” in order to join God in that work. If you are interested in being part of this conversation, you are welcome to join us in the Parish Hall at 10:00 a.m.
This Sunday is your last chance! The final “Church Chats” will be held at 4:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall on June 22nd. Wine and cheese will be served. Learn more about where the vestry is leading us and add your ideas to this informal gathering. Please RSVP to the office by phone or e-mail so that the vestry may plan accordingly.

There is still time to register for Vacation Bible School! The dates are July 14-18. This year’s VBS will be held at The Community Church on Briarcliff Road in Mountain Lakes. We congratulate our high school seniors graduating this week! Alex Messick, Cameron Sonn, Krissy Berrios, Chris Luciano, Johnny Spagnola and James Flynn are all headed away to college this fall after their graduations. Alex will be entering Susquehanna University; Cameron is heading to Boston University; Krissy and James will be going to The College of New Jersey; Chris to University of Pennsylvania and Johnny to Penn State. We congratulate them on their achievements and wish them well in this next phase of their lives!
YAC Attack 2014! This Saturday, eight of our YACs (Mikaela Dredden, Elena Messick, Thomas Vanier, Stephanie Muller, Erin Waldron, Emmet Waldron, Stephanie Braunlich) and four adults (Clive Knowles, Mary Lou Musciano, Glen Eigenmann, Adele Hatfield) will leave for Maysville, Kentucky on the 2nd annual mission trip. This ecumenical Christian camp will comprise 400 youth and adults who will work to paint and repair the homes of about 50 families in the Maysville area. The camp begins this Sunday afternoon, June 22nd and ends on the following Saturday morning. Our mission team will return home on Saturday night, June 28. Please keep them in your prayers during their travel and week of serving.

2014 Action Auction Item Available: Former Vestry Member Gayle Nelson has donated a beautiful handmade pieced cotton lap quilt in island colors including turquoises, pinks and melon hues which she lovingly created especially for the auction. It was quilted by Becky Tenney and embroidered with their names. It is approximately 50” X 70”in size. We are taking bids on it through 12:00 noon on Sunday, June 22nd. Stop by the office if you would like to see it. The last bid placed is $175. Please call or e-mail the office if you would like to place a bid. The winner will be notified the week of June 23rd.
Looking ahead to the 2015 Main Parish Fundraiser: Vestry Member Sabrina Giordano has agreed to chair next year’s major fundraise/fellowship event (formerly the Action Auction) and seeks your input as to what kind of event should take place. Wanting to get the event development and planning started; she welcomes your feedback on past events, ideas for the future and your help to make it a big success. Donations to the YAC Mission Team for supplies such as paint rollers, plastic drop cloths, industrial paper towels, different sizes of paint brushes, caulking gun would be appreciated. We also would be happy to receive Walmart or K Mart gift cards that could be used to purchase supplies. Thanks to St. Peter’s parishioners for their support of our youth and their endeavor to touch the lives of others in the name of Christ. The Mission Team leaves on Saturday, June 21st.
Congratulations to Jim Ferguson—the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient! Jim has been part of St. Peter’s for many years, having served on the vestry, finance committee, as acolyte advisor, and choir member. Recently Jim was elected by the vestry to serve as a trustee for the St. Peter’s Endowment. Jim is also responsible for making name tags for newcomers and members and reminding us to use them during coffee hour. The award will be presented during the 10:15 service on June 22nd. Recipients of this award in the diocese will be honored at a reception and Evensong at Christ Church, Orange at 3:00 p.m. on June 22nd. We thank Jim for serving in the ministries of St. Peter’s so faithfully!

We thank Cathy and John Garrison for their wonderful hospitality last Sunday as we gathered for our annual parish picnic and service by the pond. About 120 people came and enjoyed the wonderful food and fellowship. Our thanks to Sal Lagattuta, music director and the choir for the music and for all they do to make our worship meaningful. During the service, we honored our Sunday School teachers: Janet Wilson, Renee Caruthers, Marguerite Smith, Meg Eigenmann, Kevin Edwards, Flynt Marshall, Michelle Siddons, Hope White and Charlotte Manning. We appreciate their commitment to our children and youth! We honored our graduating high school seniors: Krissy Berrios, Cameron Sonn, Alex Messick, Chris Luciano, and John Spagnola. And, our YAC Mission Team was commissioned for their upcoming week of serving. All in all, it was a great day!

We're still short a few backpacks to be returned to the parish office. If you have not done so, please bring your filled backpack in this week. Linda Centurrino, coordinator of this project has a deadline for the delivery of these items to the St. John’s after-school program in Boonton. Thank you!
Sunday’s Picnic is almost here! It’s Pentecost! Wear Red! Bring a side dish to share and join into the fun! The morning begins with our 10:15 service on the lawn at the Garrison’s at 78 Intervale Road in Mountain Lakes. At the service, we will honor our Sunday School teachers, our graduating high school seniors and this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. In addition, our YAC Mission Team will be commissioned by the congregation for their mission trip to Maysville, Kentucky from June 21 to 28. Afterward, the children will stock the Garrison pond with tadpoles and we will enjoy a wonderful lunch together! Also, we have been given a beautiful lap quilt, handmade by Gayle Nelson, which is being offered up as a silent auction item. It will be on display at the picnic and bids will be taken. The proceeds will benefit our Outreach ministries at St. Peter’s. Don’t miss this wonderful fellowship event!
Faith in Fiction meets next Wednesday June the 11th. All are welcome to join into the discussion of the last short story in Listening for God: Volume 2: Andre Dubus' A Father's Story. The group will meet in Rev. Chuck’s office at 7:15.
The Bereavement Support Group meets next Tuesday evening, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. Heidi O’Donnell, LCSW facilitates this group. Those who've suffered losses of any kind are welcome. The group meets upstairs in the large classroom of the Parish Hall.
Ministry Group Meetings on Thursday, June 12: The Caring Card Ministry, a group which sends cards of cheer, encouragement and sympathy, meets at 2:00 p.m. in the Nursery. The Vestry meets that evening at 7:30 p.m. in Rev. Chuck’s office.
The YAC Mission Team and Adult Leaders will meet next Tuesday, June 10 at the rectory from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A pizza dinner will be served and information shared about our upcoming trip! The YAC Attack to repair homes of needy families in Kentucky is about to commence! The YAC Mission Team will happily accept your donations of new paint rollers, plastic drop cloths and industrial paper towels to assist them at their work sites in Maysville, Kentucky. We discovered last year that we needed much more of these items than we had taken with us. You could also donate a gift card from either K Mart or Walmart where we can purchase needed items while in Maysville. (There is no Home Depot in the immediate area.) The YACS appreciate all of the support you have given them for their mission trip!

Every month, our church receives a check for these vendor rebates. The purchase prices do not incur any additional charge to you. Our church receives these monies because we provide space for them on our website. Anyone who visits our website can purchase through it. One does not have to be a parishioner. Please encourage your family and friends to do this as well!
Grocery Cards are always available after each church service. Sabrina Giordano will begin having the cards for the 8:00 congregation later in June, while E.V. Janopaul offers them after the 10:15 service at the picnic. St Peter's receives a 5% commission on grocery card purchases.
The final Church Chat will be Sunday, June 22nd at 4:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Come hear what the Vestry is doing and offer your ideas to current vestry members about what you would like to see happen in ministry at St. Peter’s. Wine and cheese will be served. Your voice is welcome!
The Summer Service Schedule begins on June 29th: Rite I at 8:00 am as usual & Rite II moves from 10:15 to 9:30 am. Summer Coffee Hour changes to the more simple format of “Lemonade on the Lawn” (or in the parish hall if it is too hot). Hosts offer iced tea and/or lemonade accompanied by a treat or two. Please sign up to host in the parish hall as usual. Most dates are open in July and August. If you have never hosted coffee hour, this is a great way to get started!
The Summer Office Hours begin next week: The office will be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm through Labor Day.

St. Peter’s Backpack project: Filled backpacks are due June 1! Thanks to all those who took backpacks and have purchased school supplies for the after-school program at St. John’s CDC in Boonton. Laura and Linda Centurrino will deliver them to Bridget Burke-Weiss, director of the CDC.
Please join members of the vestry at the next Church Chat this Sunday, June 1 at 4:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. This will be an informal “town hall type” gathering so that vestry can receive feedback and ideas from the congregation. This is an open discussion and your ideas are welcomed. Wine and cheese will be served.
Make-a-Difference Monday is June 2nd! Twice a year, the Gourmet Café on Baldwin Road in Parsippany, one of the best restaurants in northern NJ, donates to our Outreach Ministry 10% of all receipts at the restaurant for the day (lunch and dinner). This includes take-out meals as well. Lunch is served from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m. with dinner from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. For menu selections, check (click on the green letters) their website: www.njgourmetcafe.com. Faith in Fiction meets tonight (Wednesday, May 28) at 7:15 in Rev. Chuck’s office. The short story to be discussed is “An Intermediate Soup,” by Gail Godwin, which is found in Book 2 of Listening for God. You can come even if you haven’t read the story!
Special prayers on Sunday for Memorial Day. Those members of St. Peter’s who served in the armed services and were killed in action will be remembered at Sunday’s services along with a prayer for all who served and died in the service of our nation. Rev. Chuck will be offering the invocation and benediction at ceremonies prior to Monday’s annual Memorial Day Parade in Mountain Lakes.
Parents of children entering Kindergarten through 5th Grade: Vacation Bible School needs your kids! If you have not yet registered for VBS which will be held at The Community Church in Mountain Lakes, July 14-18, there is still time! The theme is Weird Animals: Where Jesus’ Love in One-of-a-Kind. Robin Cooper, Director of Children’s Ministries at Community will lead the VBS. The cost is $50 per child. This is a morning program from 9:30 to noon each day. Registration forms are available on the hall table in the entry to the Parish Hall.

YACS are again collecting items to use on our mission trip to repair homes: We welcome your donations of paint rollers, paint brushes, industrial paper towels and drop cloths. Last year, we learned that the paper towels and drop cloths were especially helpful in our work. If you have any of these items to donate, please bring them to the parish hall to be stored upstairs in the youth room until our departure on June 21. Thank you!
The Diocesan Council’s Empowering People Action Team is sponsoring a workshop on everyday spiritual awareness. The workshop is on Wednesday, July 30 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Agnes’ Episcopal Church, 65 Union Ave., Little Falls. The facilitators are The Rev. Mark Waldon and Ms. Rosemary Wright. A light supper will be served (suggested donation of $5). The workshop is entitled, “Stepping Stones: Finding Meaning in your Life Story.” You may register by emailing The Ven. Deborah Rucki-Drake at email@example.com. The deadline is July 18.
Singing in Germany. Rev. Adele, Jocelyn Lieberfarb and David Rollins, members of the St. Peter’s choir, who are also members of The Masterwork Chorus of New Jersey, will be traveling to Frankfurt this week to sing three concerts with the Caecillian Chor of Frankfurt in three churches or cathedrals in southern Germany. This is an exchange with the Frankfurt group who traveled to sing in New Jersey last spring. Two of their choir sang with the St. Peter’s choir one Sunday while they were visiting. The Masterwork Chorus returns to New Jersey on May 31.

Mother's Day Breakfast this Sunday, May 11th! Join us for fellowship and a wonderful meal to start off Mother’s Day beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall. The Men of St. Peter's will be our gracious hosts. Thanks to Kevin Edwards for organizing the breakfast!
Back-to-school backpacks for the 2014-2015school year will be in the parish hall this Sunday, May 11th! We will again participate in the Back-to-School Backpacks for children in the CDC after school program at St. Johns in Boonton (www.cedarhillcdc.org.) Please sign up and take a backpack (or more) and fill it (them) with the attached list of suggested supplies. Sign up by the number of the backpack(s) on the corresponding number(s) on the sign-up sheet. Also, if you can help us defray the cost of the backpack, please enclose $12.00 in the attached envelope and put it in the outer pocket of the backpack. Faith Kitchen in Dover needs some help as they begin some kitchen renovations. If you haven't been able to assist with the lunches that St. Peter's serves, but want to help in some way, here are the specifics and dates: Saturday, May 10th – demolition of current shelving and spackling, preparing to paint (2-4 pm); Saturday, May 17 – painting the kitchen (2-4 pm). Then the plumber and electrician will be there over Memorial Day weekend to do the installation of the new triple sink, hand washing sink, and shelving. Please let Trink Schwartz, director of Faith Kitchen know (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you can help out either on May 10th or May 17th. Thanks so much!

Church Chats! Our Vestry will hold three discussion meetings to share its plans and its thinking with members of St. Peter’s congregation. They’re looking for feedback and ideas from everyone who attends, so don’t be shy – let them know what’s on your mind. Meetings will be on Sundays at 4 PM in Parish Hall – May 18th, June 1st, and June 22nd. Light refreshments will be served and child care will be provided. (The meetings will be essentially the same, so you only need to attend one). Please reply to the parish office regarding the session that you are able to attend so that plans can be made accordingly.
Bereavement Support Group here at St. Peter’s on Tuesday, May 13th at 7:30 pm. If you have suffered the loss of a loved one or other kinds of significant losses, you are welcome to join Heidi O’Donnell LCSW, in a group setting held in the upstairs classroom. This free, confidential group meets monthly on the second Tuesday of the month and is open to those within our parish as well as those in our community.
The next Vestry meeting is May 15 at 7:30 p.m. Also, the Caring Ministry (aka Sunshine Ministry) will meet on May 15 at 2:00 p.m.
On Sunday, May 18, we will celebrate and honor our young children during the Peace. Recently, several of our young ones attended a special class about the Eucharist. While the Episcopal Church offers communion to all children who have been baptized, we also like to honor the traditions of many families to reserve communion for their children until they are older. One of our children will receive her first communion at this service. We will be asking all of our young children to come forward at the Peace for a special prayer for them and their parents.
We are ending our family time on Maui and look forward to being back at St. Peter's with you this weekend!
